Public meeting set for Oct. 15 for WIS 138 in Dane and Rock counties

October 1, 2009

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a public information meeting to discuss improvements to WIS 138 between Stoughton and Cooksville in Dane and Rock Counties. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 4 - 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of the Public Safety Building, 321 S. Fourth Street, Stoughton. The meeting will be held in an open-house format.

WisDOT and city of Stoughton representatives will be present to answer questions. Exhibit boards and handout materials will be available for the public to review.

Construction is expected to take place in summer/fall of 2010. The road will be closed from intersection of W. Main Street and S. Van Buren Street to the intersection of S. Van Buren Street and Milwaukee Street, Stoughton. A detour using Milwaukee Street, Fourth Street, and Main Street will be provided. The pavement will be replaced and a pedestrian refuge median island will be constructed at the crossing with W. South Street.

WIS 159 will be kept open to single lane traffic from Stoughton to Cooksville. The project will resurface the roadway, replace and extend several culvert pipes, and replace deficient guardrail.

The meeting site is wheelchair-accessible. Persons who are deaf or hard of hearing and require an interpreter for the meeting should contact the Jan Bennett via the Wisconsin Relay (dial 711).
