Festivities planned for October 17
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is providing this information on behalf of the city of Oconto.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 17 and plan to attend an exciting day of family fun! A ribbon cutting has been scheduled marking the completion of the US 41 expansion project in Oconto, beginning at 2 p.m. Following the ribbon cutting, there will be a dedication of the new highway, with former mayor Tom Fulton serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Participants in the dedication also include the Oconto American Legion and other area veterans, Cub Scouts, Oconto High School Band, select dignitaries, a blessing of safe travels on the new highway and April Strom-Johnson singing the National Anthem. The event will be held at the corner of VanHecke and Evergreen.
After the dedication, the fun will really get going and last until dusk. There will be DJ music provided by White Nickel Entertainment, free face painting and balloons for the kids, as well as Brayson's Bouncers and other children's activities. You'll have to be sure to stop by the displays of classic and antique cars. Other features include $25 helicopter rides, a great selection of food and beverages to suit all ages and a big-screen photographic slide show of the entire construction process. How cool is that!
Consider inviting family and friends from surrounding areas to join you. This is a great way to show folks why we are proud of Oconto and all the great things our city has to offer.
The event is being hosted by the city of Oconto and the Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce. According to Mayor Donald Nerenhausen, "Our goal in hosting this event is to celebrate and commemorate the history-making dedication of the new highway into and around our proud city in a positive way."
