State Patrol and Madison Police Department will team up for traffic enforcement on East Washington and University avenues Friday

The Wisconsin State Patrol will team up with the Madison Police Department on Friday, Oct. 30, to bolster traffic enforcement on East Washington Avenue from the Interstate to the Capitol and on University Avenue (and Campus Drive) from North Bassett Street to Middleton.

“Traffic is expected to be heavy along the East Washington and University Avenue corridors on Friday because of an influx of motorists for Halloween weekend activities and UW athletic events, including football and hockey games,” says Capt. Charles Teasdale, commander of the State Patrol Southwest Region. “Approximately 40 State Patrol troopers will join Madison Police Department officers in an intensified enforcement effort to prevent crashes on these corridors. We will stringently enforce all traffic laws and will especially be on the lookout for impaired drivers. Our goal is to increase voluntary compliance with traffic laws, not to issue more citations or make more operating while intoxicated arrests. We hope that an increased law enforcement presence will motivate motorists to buckle up, obey speed limits, eliminate distractions, and drive sober. However, if they don’t drive responsibly we are fully prepared to take appropriate enforcement actions.”

Earlier this month, the State Patrol and Madison Police Department worked together for a joint traffic enforcement effort on Stoughton Road (US 51).
