Governor Doyle announces $881,953 project at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport

October 28, 2009

Governor Jim Doyle has approved an $881,953 project to reconstruct a ramp and design the reconstruction of a taxiway at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville.  The Governor’s action releases $22,049 in state funds to reconstruct the southeast terminal ramp area and develop plans and specifications for the reconstruction of the southern half of taxiway A (parallel taxiway to runway 4/22).  Rock County is contributing $22,050 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $837,854.

According to Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the state Department of Transportation, the project will reconstruct existing pavements that have deteriorated beyond their useful life.

Facilities at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport include three paved runways, with a series of parallel and connecting taxiways and apron areas.  The runways are 7,300 feet, 6,700 feet and 5,000 feet in length.  Approximately 130 aircraft are based at the airport and about 77,000 take-offs and landings occur there each year.
