Governor Doyle approves $157,895 project at Viroqua Municipal Airport
October 28, 2009
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $157,895 project to update the airport layout plan, purchase snow removal equipment and seal coat airport pavement at the Viroqua Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $3,947 in state funds to bring the existing plan up to current aeronautical standards and show existing and future planned airport improvement. The city of Viroqua is contributing $3,948 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $150,000.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, having dedicated snow removal equipment, rather than relying on city equipment to provide the service, will ensure prompt snow clean-up and early reopening of the airport after snowstorms.
The projects are scheduled to begin in 2010 and should be completed by 2011.
Facilities at the Viroqua Municipal Airport include a 3,350-foot paved runway and a 2,500-foot
turf airstrip. There are some 13 aircraft based at the airport and approximately 10,000
aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) at the airport each year.
