Governor Doyle approves $190,737 project at three airports
October 28, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $190,737 project to conduct ground and aerial surveys at three
Wisconsin airports for the development of LPV (localizer precision with vertical guidance)
approaches to each airport. The airports are: L.O. Simenstad Municipal Airport, near
Osceola; Burlington Municipal Airport; and East Troy Municipal Airport.
The Governor’s action releases $32,337 in state funds to complete the project. The
Federal Aviation Administration is providing the remaining $158,400.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the project will increase safety at each airport by allowing pilots to use an LPV
approach. The LPV approach gives both vertical and horizontal guidance to the airport’s
primary runway. These approaches will allow the planes to fly closer to the airport before
deciding if it is safe to land.
The project is scheduled be completed by September 2010.
