Governor Doyle approves $40,000 project at Tri-County Regional Airport
October 28, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $40,000 project to provide design engineering services at the
Tri-County Regional Airport, in Lone Rock, Wisconsin. The Governor’s action releases $1,000
in state funds to design a reconstruction of the airport’s main terminal ramp. The counties
of Sauk, Iowa and Richland are contributing another $1,000 to the project, and the Federal Aviation
Administration will provide $38,000.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the project will reconstruct a terminal apron that is in poor condition due to
age. This apron is used by pilots visiting the airport terminal area getting
fuel. The ramp also contains tie-down areas for transient pilots to park overnight.
This is the main ramp area for the airport and serves many of Tri-County Airport’s users;
therefore, it is important that this pavement be in good condition.
The design project is scheduled to be completed by January 2010.
The Tri-County Regional Airport is located approximately two miles north of Lone Rock,
Wisconsin, and six miles west of Spring Green. There are 27 aircraft based at the airport and
approximately 12,000 take-offs and landings each year.
