Governor Doyle approves $483,684 for projects at Ashland airport
November 24, 2009
Governor Jim Doyle has approved projects totaling $483,684 at the John F. Kennedy Memorial
Airport in Ashland. The projects involve reconstructing airport pavements, upgrading the electrical
vault and funding a USDA Wildlife Hazard Assessment Study. The Governor’s action releases
$19,842 in state funds to help complete the projects. The city of Ashland is contributing
$13,842, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $450,000.
According to Eric Johnson, P.E., airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department
of Transportation, the reconstruction and upgrade are badly needed, and the USDA study provides
necessary information about wildlife in or flying above the airport that may be a safety hazard to
aircraft at the airport.
The projects are expected to be completed by October of 2010.
The JFK Memorial Airport, in Ashland, Wisconsin consists of two paved runways, taxiways,
