Avoid Leo Frigo Bridge on I-43 this Labor Day holiday
August 29, 2012
Traffic congestion expected during peak travel times
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is reminding motorists to expect significant travel delays on I-43 near the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge in Brown County this holiday weekend and to plan alternative routes. The highway is undergoing a $17 million improvement and all traffic is reduced to a single lane in each direction on nearly 3.5 miles of highway. These lane restrictions and increased holiday traffic may cause significant delays during peak travel times.
WisDOT advises drivers to avoid I-43 at the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge between the hours of noon and 8 p.m. on both Friday, August 31 and Monday, September 3.
Motorists should consider bypassing the area this Labor Day holiday, by using WIS 172 to travel between I-43 and US 41 in Brown County.
Work will continue on US 41 in Brown County with two lanes of traffic maintained in both directions; drivers will encounter 11-foot travel lanes and reduced shoulders in multiple locations along a 10-mile segment of highway. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph from just south of Scheuring Road to Memorial Drive.
Motorists should remain alert and use caution when driving through any work zone.
Drivers are also encouraged to seek information about work zones and detours in the following ways:
- For statewide, recorded road construction information, 24 hours a day, call 511.
