Public meeting planned for US 53 in Douglas County
May 7, 2013
Meeting to focus on recommended intersection alternatives for preservation study of US 53 from Solon Springs to Superior
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region in Spooner is announcing a public information meeting to discuss the corridor preservation study for US 53 between Solon Springs and 53rd Avenue in the city of Superior in Douglas County. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 21 at the Hawthorne Town Hall, 7221S Town Hall Road. A short presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.
WisDOT is conducting a preservation study along the US 53 corridor to plan for future improvements. The study will include identification of locations for future grade-separated intersections along US 53 to preserve long-term mobility and safety of the highway. The project will result in development of a planning study document and some areas may be preserved through official mapping under Wisconsin Statute 84.295. No construction is planned at this time.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input, and ask questions concerning this study. Alternatives considered during the study and the recommended alternatives will be on display for potential improvements in the area of the existing County L intersection, County B intersection, US 2 interchange, and Moccasin Mike Road intersection. The grade-separated alternatives being considered at each of these locations may require closure or relocation of some local roads to ensure safe traffic flow. WisDOT representatives will be available to answer questions.
If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like more information or to comment, contact Marc Bowker at (715) 635-4975. Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Marc Bowker, WisDOT, W7102 Green Valley Road, Spooner, WI 54801. The meeting site is accessible to wheelchair. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and who require an interpreter may arrange for one by contacting Marc Bowker at least three days prior to the meeting.
