WIS 54, WIS 173 improvements scheduled in Wood County
July 24, 2013
Closure, detour of WIS 54 begins in early August
Roadway improvements on WIS 54 (WIS 80 to Wood County G), and WIS 173 (Cranberry Ditch Crossing bridge to County GG) are currently scheduled to begin Monday, August 5.
American Asphalt of Wisconsin is the prime contractor for the $ 2.8 million project. Improvements include:
- Milling WIS 173, between Cranberry Ditch Crossing bridge and Wood County GG, and replacing it with new asphalt
- Milling WIS 54, between WIS 80 (Dexterville) and County G (Port Edwards), and replacing it with new asphalt
- Straightening a curve on WIS 54 between School Lane and County GG to meet current safety standards.
Construction is currently scheduled for completion by October 2013.
WIS 54 will be closed to through traffic for approximately five weeks beginning August 8. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction status. During the closure through traffic will be detoured via WIS 80, WIS 173 and WIS 73. Access to adjacent businesses and residences will be maintained.
During the remainder of construction motorists on WIS 54 and WIS 173 can expect to encounter daytime single lane closures and flagging operations. To avoid delays motorists are advised to plan ahead or find an alternate route.
The project will be paid for with a combination of federal and state transportation funds.
