WisDOT schedules US 53 Preservation Study public information meeting

July 26, 2013

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region is conducting a public information meeting regarding the US 53 Preservation Study from the Wascott/Gordon town line to just south of the Solon Springs/Bennett town line, a distance of approximately 12 miles in Douglas County. Communities in the study area include the towns of Bennett, Gordon, Solon Springs, and Wascott, and the village of Solon Springs.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the school district of Solon Springs, 8993 E. Baldwin Avenue, Solon Springs, Wisconsin. A brief presentation is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. The remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format.

The study team has developed a range of alternatives using public input from the first round of meetings. The purpose of the upcoming meeting is to obtain your input about the range of alternatives. Exhibits will be on display and attendees will be given the opportunity to provide written or verbal comments. WisDOT staff will also be on hand to answer questions.

The US 53 Preservation Study includes an alternative study, Environmental Assessment (EA), and preliminary engineering along the existing four-lane expressway. Construction funding has not been programmed but the study is necessary to preserve the future right-of-way. WisDOT is conducting the study now to ensure long-term options are not precluded as land uses change along the corridor over time, and to help the communities plan development in a way that will be compatible with future access changes.
