WisDOT conducting public meeting to discuss WIS 54, County U intersection study

August 16, 2013

Department developing long-term plan for intersection area located in Wood, Portage counties

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public involvement meeting to discuss a study of the WIS 54 and County U intersection area, between 64th Street and 90th Street, in Wood and Portage counties.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Biron Municipal Center, 451 Kahoun Road, Wisconsin Rapids. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.; the remainder of the meeting will follow an open house format. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at least three working days prior to the meeting.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the future safety and traffic operations of the WIS 54 and County U intersection area.

WisDOT worked with local municipalities to evaluate the current safety issues at the intersection and the adjacent development areas. The potential increase and redistribution of traffic from the proposed future development, is expected to impact the operational efficiency of WIS 54.

WisDOT is conducting the public meeting to familiarize the public with the purpose and need of the study and provide an overview of upcoming and completed activities. The department will also explain the next steps of the process, including additional public outreach and input opportunities.

The results of the intersection study will assist local communities, property owners, and businesses to make informed land use decisions that are compatible with the long-range plans.
