September 19, 2013
Governor Scott Walker today announced a $807,019 project to reconstruct airfield pavements and install new approach lighting for the primary runway at Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport.
Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will reconstruct deteriorating pavements on the runway and connecting taxiway, along with the airport’s parking lot and access road. The new precision approach path indicator (PAPI) lights will enhance landing conditions at the airport.
The airport is now closed for reconstruction, which is set to be completed by November 2013.
- State = $28,509
- City of Fort Atkinson = $28,510
- Federal Aviation Administration = $750,000
Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan (SASP). The airport is classified as a medium general aviation airport. It supports most single and multi-engine general aviation aircraft, including aircraft commonly used by businesses.
