September 19, 2013
Governor Scott Walker approved a $166,667 project to purchase and install weather equipment for the Solon Springs Municipal Airport, along with funding for airport planning purposes.
Stacey Miller, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the Automated Weather Observing Station (AWOS) will enhance safety for inbound and departing aircraft by providing continuous weather reports. The addition of the Solon Springs AWOS brings the state’s total number of units to 44.
- State = $8,333
- Village and town of Solon Springs = $8,334
- Federal Aviation Administration = $150,000
This project is expected to be completed by fall 2014.
Solon Spring Municipal Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan (SASP). The airport is classified as a small general aviation airport, meaning it primarily supports single-engine aircraft.
