Governor Scott Walker today announced a $575,639 project for real estate, equipment and construction-related services as L. O. Simenstad Municipal Airport in Osceola.

Gayle Stearn, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project includes purchasing land under runway approaches to protect airspace; investing in snow removal equipment to help keep pavements clear during the winter season; upgrading the fuel system to improve customer service and inventory control; and rehabilitating the primary runway to increase its pavement life.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $22,724
  • L. O. Simenstad Municipal Airport = $22,725
  • Federal Aviation Administration = $530,190

The project is underway and expected to be completed by fall 2014.

Osceola’s L. O. Simenstad Municipal Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan (SASP). It is classified as a medium general aviation airport, supporting most single and multi-engine aircraft, including those aircraft commonly used by businesses.
