Governor Walker approves $494,000 project at Shawano Municipal Airport
November 22, 2013
Governor Scott Walker today announced a $494,445 project for pavement rehabilitation, along with design work for future improvements at Shawano Municipal Airport.
Gayle Stearn, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said repairs are needed to the airport’s primary runway to extend its pavement life. In addition, design engineering services include upgrading the fuel facility to include an automated credit card system to better serve customers and control inventory; removing obstructions to protect airspace during landings and takeoffs; and installing visual navigational aids to assist pilots in safely landing aircraft.
- State = $20,104
- City of Shawano and Shawano County = $20,104
- Federal Aviation Administration = $454,237
The project is underway and expected to be completed by fall 2014.
Shawano Municipal Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan (SASP). It is classified as a small general aviation airport, primarily supporting single-engine aircraft.
