Governor Walker approves more than $6.4 million in additional funding for project at Sawyer County Airport

Governor Scott Walker today announced a $6,409,366 project to improve and expand facilities at Sawyer County Airport in Hayward.
Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will improve and expand several facilities at the airport, as well as add new ground-based navigational aids and a full-length parallel taxiway to the primary runway.

- Federal Aviation Administration = $4,561,868
Construction is underway and scheduled to be completed by December 2014.
Governor Walker previously announced $2,766,000 in local, state and federal funding to purchase land and make improvements at Sawyer County Airport. The total cost associated with this project is $9,175,366.
Sawyer County Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan (SASP). It is classified as a medium general aviation airport, supporting most single and multi-engine aircraft, including those aircraft commonly used by businesses.
