Final public hearing scheduled for state rail plan on December 10

December 3, 2013

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding an open house and public hearing on the final draft of the Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030 on Tuesday, December 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at WisDOT’s Southwest Region Office, located at 2101 Wright Street in Madison.

The open house is from 4 to 6 p.m. During the open house, the public can view information on the final draft plan, review final draft plan materials, and provide individual formal testimony for the official record. The public hearing is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. and will provide an opportunity for individuals to give open formal testimony. Written testimony for the official record will be collected during the entire event, as well. If you plan to attend the hearing and require a Spanish or American Sign Language translator, please notify WisDOT before Thursday, December 5, using the contact information listed at the end of this release. The meeting site is accessible for persons with disabilities.

Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030 focuses on the needs of the state’s rail system and meets all relevant federal and state requirements. The final draft Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030 identifies rail infrastructure issues that reflect the views of Wisconsin citizens, businesses, and government officials. The plan includes a number of key elements, including a statewide vision for freight, intercity passenger and commuter rail; and an inventory of Wisconsin’s rail system, rail service, and rail facilities. The accompanying System-plan Environmental Evaluation (SEE) identifies statewide system-level environmental impacts that may result from implementing Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030. The final plan will communicate the condition of Wisconsin’s rail system, the rationale for identifying and proposing improvements, and the financial needs for proposed rail projects. Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030 will inform the development and implementation of rail policy and serve as a guide for decision-makers through 2030.

The final draft Wisconsin Rail Plan 2030 and SEE will be available for public comment through December 30, 2013. Copies of the final draft plan and SEE are available for public review at the WisDOT Hill Farms State Office Building Library, 4802 Sheboygan Avenue in Madison, and at WisDOT Region offices in Madison, Waukesha, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Superior, Rhinelander, Wisconsin Rapids, and Green Bay. The final draft plan and SEE are also available online the WisDOT web site.
