Reminder: Meeting scheduled for US 141 and Wausaukee Bridge construction

January 7, 2014

Work beginning in 2014

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is providing this reminder of the public information meeting for the replacement of the US 141 bridge over the Wausaukee River in Wausaukee, Marinette County in 2014 and the reconstruction of 1.23 miles of US 141 from WIS 180 to Division Street in 2016. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wausaukee High School, N11941 Hwy 141, Wausaukee, Wisconsin. A short presentation will be made at 5:10 p.m.

The US 141 bridge over the Wausaukee River is being replaced in 2014 with a single span concrete structure. The bridge will have sidewalks on both sides of the road with a decorative railing.

In 2016, WisDOT also plans to:

  • Reconstruct US 141 with new asphalt pavement.
  • Replace the storm sewer.
  • Make minor changes to the roadway profile, improving drainage, and at intersections to improve motorist and pedestrian safety.
  • Add curb and gutter from County C to Division Street.
  • Add sidewalk along the east side of US 141 from WIS 180 to Monroe Avenue; from Beach Avenue to North Avenue; along the west side of US 141 from Monroe Avenue to Van Buren Avenue; and from Tyler Avenue to Division Street.
  • Eliminate parking on US 141.

The meeting is being held in an open house format and the public is encouraged to attend at their convenience, provide input and ask questions concerning this project. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis and receive comments.

Several permanent right of way acquisitions and temporary grading easements will be necessary to complete the proposed project, but WisDOT does not anticipate the need to purchase any homes or buildings. Preliminary plans will be displayed at this meeting showing the proposed permanent and temporary real estate.

Traffic will be impacted during both construction projects. US 141 northbound traffic will remain on US 141 throughout construction and will be shifted to one side or the other to accommodate construction staging. US 141 southbound traffic will be directed to a signed detour route on local streets. The detour route will follow Division Street, Tyler Avenue, and 1st Street. Access to properties along the project route will be maintained for emergency service vehicles, homeowners, retail owners and their customers except for limited periods of time during underground utility relocations, sidewalk replacements and driveway improvements. Advance notice will be given to property owners prior to driveway access being restricted.

Persons unable to attend the meeting but wanting more information should contact WisDOT Project Manager Paul Zoellner at (920) 492-0132 or email at Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Paul Zoellner, 944 Vanderperren Way, Green Bay, WI 54304.
