Public information meeting for IH 794 Lakefront Gateway Project in Milwaukee County

January 22, 2014

Meeting to focus on preliminary designs for the Lake Interchange and local roads

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southeast Region in Waukesha is announcing a public information meeting to present conceptual design alternatives and hear public comments for the IH 794 Lakefront Gateway Project in Milwaukee. WisDOT, in partnership with the City of Milwaukee, will hold the meeting on January 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the upper level of the Milwaukee Public Market, 400 North Water Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The meeting will be held in an open house format allowing participants to view concepts and provide feedback for the proposed improvement including:

  • The removal, realignment and reconstruction of the eastbound IH 794 exit ramp to North Lincoln Memorial Drive and the westbound IH 794 entrance from North Lincoln Memorial Drive.
  • The reconstruction of city streets including East Clybourn Street (East Van Buren Street to North Lincoln Memorial Drive) and the reconfiguration and reconstruction of both North Harbor Drive and North Lincoln Memorial Drive from East Michigan Street to East Chicago Street.

WisDOT and city of Milwaukee representatives will be available to discuss the project and familiarize participants with the design alternatives. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions. The Milwaukee Lakefront Gateway Project is a unique collaboration among the city of Milwaukee, state of Wisconsin and Milwaukee County to improve connections to the lakefront, downtown Milwaukee and the Historic Third Ward. It also has the potential to create new development opportunities while improving access and safety.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, have special needs, or would like more information, contact the Project Manager, Carolynn Gellings at (262) 548-8716.
