Public meetings scheduled to discuss I-39 in Stevens Point area

February 19, 2014

Meetings will focus on the I-39/Portage County B (Plover) and I-39/WIS 66/Stanley Street (Stevens Point) interchanges

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting two public involvement meetings next week to discuss the I-39 Stevens Point Area Corridor Study. The limits of the corridor study include all of I-39 from the WIS 54 interchange (Plover) to the US 10 west interchange (Hull), in Portage County.

Next week’s meetings will focus on improvement alternatives for two of the corridor’s interchanges: I-39/Portage County B and I-39/WIS 66/Stanley Street.

I-39/WIS 66/Stanley Street interchange
Thursday, February 27, 2014
5:30 to 7 p.m. (presentation at 6 p.m.)
Washington Elementary School

The public is encouraged to attend one or both of the meetings. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and require an interpreter at the meeting, may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at least three working days prior to the meeting.

The I-39/Portage County B and I-39/WIS 66 interchanges currently present various safety concerns regarding bridge clearance, ramp operations, pavement condition, adjacent access, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. WisDOT is seeking the public’s input on proposed improvement alternatives that will address the existing and future transportation needs of the interchanges.

An improvement project on the I-39/Portage County B interchange is currently scheduled to take place in 2017, 2018 and 2019; but could occur as early as 2016, 2017 and 2018. An improvement project for the I-39/WIS 66/Stanley Street interchange is currently scheduled to take place in 2019 but could occur as early as 2016.
