Verona Road Project weekly construction update: April 21 to April 25

All lane restrictions and work operations are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Note: The Verona Road work zone speed limit is 30 mph between the Beltline and Raymond Road. For everyone's safety, please drive with caution through the work zones.

Verona Road work

  • Two lanes open to traffic on Verona Road (in each direction), between the Beltline and Raymond Road.
  • Daytime reconstruction work is ongoing on Verona Road northbound and the frontage roads.
    • Crews continue with bridge and wall construction along with grading operations.
    • Concrete pavement work will begin Wednesday, April 23 between Atticus Way and the eastbound Beltline on-ramp from northbound Verona Road.
    • Sanitary sewer construction to start mid-week just south of Red Arrow Trail at the east frontage road and at the Freeport Connector on the West Frontage Road. Pavement markings may be shifted to accommodate the construction – two lanes of traffic to remain open.
    • Water main construction to begin on the west frontage road from Goodwill's driveway to Subway. Two lanes of traffic to remain open.
    • Work to occur approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (April 21 to 25)
  • Nighttime work to occur in conjunction with the concrete paving operation. Some noise is anticipated from concrete saws.
    • 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 23 to 24) – weather-dependent and subject to change.
  • Nightly single lane closures on northbound and southbound Verona Road, from County PD (McKee Road) to the Raymond Road intersection.
    • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 21 to 25)
    • Crews will work on soil borings for Stage 2 of the Verona Road Project.
  • Freeport Connection is open to traffic (temporary roadway under Verona Road near Southwest Commuter Path). The Southwest Commuter Path remains open in this area.

Whitney Way ramp work

  • Nightly ramp closure from the westbound Beltline to Whitney Way.
    • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 22 to 24) – subject to change
  • Work includes placing sand to build the future exit ramp lanes to Whitney Way.
  • Daytime work is ongoing on the Whitney Way noise wall construction and storm sewer construction on the Whitney Way ramps.
    • One right turn lane CLOSED from the westbound Beltline off-ramp to Whitney Way until May 23, 2014. One right turn lane to remain open.
    • Outside shoulder closed from Whitney Way to the westbound Beltline from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (April 21 to 25).

Westbound Beltline

  • Nighttime lane closures on the westbound Beltline, between Verona Road and Whitney Way. Note: lane closures are subject to change.
    • "Exit only" lane closed: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 22 to 24)
    • Right lane closed: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 22 to 24)
    • One lane of traffic to remain open during this work.
  • Nightly lane closures on the westbound Beltline at Todd Drive.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 23 to 25)
  • Nightly lane closure on the westbound Beltline from Whitney Way to Gammon Road.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 21 to 25)
  • Daytime median shoulder closure on the westbound Beltline near South Towne Drive.
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (April 22) 

Eastbound Beltline

  • Nightly lane closure on the eastbound Beltline from Gammon Road to Whitney Way.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 21 to 25)
  • Nighttime lane closure on the eastbound Beltline from Seminole Highway to Todd Drive.
    • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 24 to 25)
  • Nighttime ramp closure from the eastbound Beltline to Todd Drive.
    • 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (April 24 to 25)
    • Traffic pattern to be shifted once re-opened.
  • Daytime shoulder closures (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at the following locations:
    • Eastbound Beltline off-ramp to Todd Drive (April 22)
    • Eastbound Beltline at Old Sauk Road (April 22)
    • US 12 eastbound between County K and the Parmenter Street off-ramp (April 21 to 23) 

West Beltline Frontage Road (east of Verona Road)

  • CLOSED to through traffic, between Britta Parkway and Whenona Drive (south of the Beltline), until July 10, 2014.
    • Alternate routes are required. Access to area businesses to remain open.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices (e.g., traffic monitoring equipment)

  • Daytime work and single lane closures along County PD (in both directions), from Nesbitt Road to Fish Hatchery Road.
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (April 21 to 25) 

Intersection improvements
Fish Hatchery Road (County D) and County M intersection; Fish Hatchery Road and Whalen Road intersection

  • Daytime work at the intersections. Shoulder closures and flagging operations along both roadways.
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (April 21 to 25)
    • Note: The Dane County Highway Department will also be working in this area.

Whitney Way and Gilbert Road intersection

  • Daytime work to extend the northbound and southbound left turn lanes. Single lane closures may occur along Whitney Way at the intersection.
    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  (April 21 to 25)

Verona Road and County PD (Military Ridge path)

  • Work continues on bridge construction along the abandoned railroad line, just east of the Verona Road and County PD intersection.
    • This portion of the trail to be closed on north and south sides of County PD until May 2014.
    • Military Ridge State Trail along Verona Road remains open.

Please be alert for crews working in the area and drive with caution through the work zones.
