WIS 28 to close for construction in Washington County

March 24, 2014

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will begin work on WIS 28 from US 45 to 144 in Washington County. Work will begin on this six mile stretch Monday, March 24. The work is expected to continue until the end of the year.

Beginning Monday, WIS 28 will be closed to through traffic. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via US 45 south, County H east, and WIS 144 north.

Parts of WIS 28 will be reconstructed while other parts of the road will be resurfaced. The bridge over the Milwaukee River will be replaced. The project will include the smoothing out of hills and improving sight distance for motorists. These improvements are expected to enhance motorist safety.

Improvements to sewer and water mains will be in the initial stage of the project with bridge work expected to start in May.

More information about the project can be found at the project website.
