March 24, 2014

Work is scheduled to begin March 31 on Highway 33 between 32nd Street and Forest Ridge Drive in the town of Shelby, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southwest Region office in La Crosse.

The project from 32nd Street to County F will be closed to through traffic. Local access for residents living in the work zone will be provided on two 10-foot driving lanes. Access for residents on Knobloch Road and further east will be provided on eastbound WIS 33 to County F and County YY. This segment is expected to be completed by early October.

Following completion of work between 32nd Street and County F, work will begin from County F to Forest Ridge Drive. The work zone will be closed to through traffic. Local access will be provided on WIS 33. Access for residents on WIS 33 from Forest Ridge and further west will be from La Crosse on the newly constructed lanes. The detour will be removed when this segment is completed by mid-November.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be aware of construction workers and vehicles in the area. The posted speed limit will be 25 mph. Flagging operations may interrupt travel and the roadway will be unpaved and narrow at times.

The project includes pavement replacement, paved shoulders, turn lanes, curb and gutter, retaining walls, and sidewalks. Hagen Road and Wedgewood Drive will also be realigned and reconstructed with traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, and turn lanes at the intersections.

Work is expected to be completed by mid-November. Project cost is estimated at $10,075,000. The prime contractor is Chippewa Concrete Services, Inc. of Chippewa Falls.

Motorists are encouraged call 511 or log onto Wisconsin 511 online for the latest traffic updates locally and statewide.
