Wisconsin DOT, DNR respond to sewage spill at Lake Mills rest area
April 9, 2014
Clean-up completed on 3,400-gallon sewage spill, access temporarily restricted
A broken pipe caused about 3,400 gallons of sewage to spill into a nearby ditch at Rest Area 13 along I-94 east of Lake Mills in Jefferson County on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation along with the state Department of Natural Resources responded to the incident.
An investigation determined a defective pipe allowed the sewage to flow into a field behind the rest area’s truck parking lot. The spill was cleaned up and the pipe has been replaced. Access to the area will be restricted and monitoring will continue to ensure public safety.
