Wrap up Leo Frigo Bridge work beginning next week
April 10, 2014
Bridge traffic will not be affected
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region in Green Bay is announcing work scheduled for the base of the Leo Frigo Bridge (I-43) in Green Bay. Beginning Monday, April 14, concrete will be poured on the pre-tensioned bars around the footings at Piers 21 to 25.
WisDOT Region Director Will Dorsey said, "Now that the weather is warming up, we can go back out to the bridge site and finish our work on the base of the bridge."
Later in the month, WisDOT will also finish landscaping in the area as well.
Please note all work is weather-dependent.
The Leo Frigo Bridge’s Pier 22 sank as the result of corrosion to the pier’s pilings due to the unique soil conditions surrounding them. These same conditions were found from Pier 21 to 25 and all of these piers were repaired.
Contractors installed new drilled shafts at the bases of the five piers, protected from the corrosive conditions that exist and connected to the pier footings. The deck at Pier 22 was then jacked back into place and supports installed.
The bridge, closed to traffic on Septemeber 25, 2013, reopened January 5, 2014.
