Public meeting scheduled to discuss WIS 153 improvements in Shawano County

June 5, 2014

Meeting to focus on proposed pavement improvements in the town of Wittenberg

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public involvement meeting to discuss proposed pavement improvements to WIS 153, between the Marathon County line and the intersection with US 45, in the town of Wittenberg, Shawano County.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 17 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Wittenberg Town Hall located at 17395 County Road Q, Wittenberg, WI 54499. The meeting will follow an open house format. A brief presentation is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. The objective of the meeting is to present information regarding the purpose and need for the project. We are also seeking input regarding the proposed improvements and traffic management during construction.

There are several issues along this section of the highway that need to be addressed. The existing pavement is showing signs of excessive deterioration and rutting, resulting in a poor ride quality. There are also four culverts that require replacement.

Construction is currently scheduled for 2019. WisDOT expects to keep the highway open to traffic by using flagging operations.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.

Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing and who require an interpreter may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at (715) 421-8380 at least three working days prior to the meeting.
