Governor Walker approves reconstruction project at General Mitchell International Airport

June 16, 2014

Governor Scott Walker today announced an $800,000 project to reconstruct the general aviation apron at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.

Wendy Hottenstein, airport project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will reconstruct the general aviation apron at the southwest side of the airport; the 25-year-old asphalt pavement will be replaced with concrete pavement.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $640,000
  • Milwaukee County = $160,000

The project is expected to be completed by fall 2014.

General Mitchell International Airport is one of 98 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for state and federal funding. Airport improvement projects are administered through WisDOT’s Bureau of Aeronautics.
