Public meeting for WIS 27 (S. Black River Street), Sparta

July 1, 2014

Meeting to focus on proposed improvements, public invited to attend and comment

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a public involvement meeting to discuss preliminary plans for the reconstruction of WIS 27 (S. Black River Street) from River Road to WIS 16 (W. Wisconsin Street) in Sparta. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on July 10 at Sparta City Hall, 201 W. Oak Street.

Work proposed with the project includes the replacement of all pavement, sidewalk, and the existing traffic signals at the intersection of WIS 27 and WIS 16. New turn lanes and on-road bicycle accommodations will be constructed. In addition, WisDOT is looking to modify and remove driveways along WIS 27, as well as reconfiguring the WIS 27 and River Road intersections. Alternatives at this intersection include a single lane roundabout or the addition of traffic signals.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis. A brief presentation with an overview of the project will be given at 6 p.m.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, contact Paul Valenti at (608) 785-9053. Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Paul Valenti, WisDOT Southwest Region, 3550 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601.
