Planned full closure of US 41 in portion of Washington County

July 24, 2014

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday July 25, US 41 at the WIS 144 interchange will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, followed by a full freeway closure from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. WisDOT is scheduled to demolish the existing WIS 144 bridge deck over US 41 as part of the US 41/WIS 144 improvement project in Washington County. If necessary, the same closure is scheduled for Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to midnight. US 41 will be open to through traffic during daytime hours with possible lane restrictions.

Safety to the traveling public is of the utmost priority. The safest way to remove the concrete bridge deck is to close the freeway completely. WisDOT has chosen an off-peak traffic time to minimize impacts to motorists. Motorists can utilize the following detour routes.

Northbound detour route:

  • Exit onto WIS 60 West to WIS 175 North
  • WIS 175 North to County K East
  • County K East to US 41

Southbound detour route:

  • Exit onto County K West to WIS 175 South
  • WIS 175 South to WIS 60 East
  • WIS 60 East to US 41

Electronic signs with this information will be placed two miles north and south of the detour routes. Additionally, markers will be placed along the detour to assure motorists they are traveling the proper route. State Patrol will be assisting with the closure operation.

All scheduled operations are weather-dependent and subject to change. More information about the US 41/WIS 144 improvement project can be found at the project website.
