US 51 central segment - Stoughton Road planned improvements

WisDOT and other agencies in the corridor have several projects in the planning phase that will enhance the functioning of Stoughton Road and improve pedestrian and bicycle access.

  • In 2006, WisDOT will begin a project to improve signal timing on Stoughton Road (US 51). The high traffic volumes on some of the side roads pose a challenge to achieving optimal timing, but some improvement may be possible.

The following signal pairs will be worked on in this order:

    • Kinsman Boulevard and Anderson Street
    • Lexington/Commercial and WIS 30
    • Buckeye Road and Pflaum Road

  • Marsh View/East Branch Creek bike path - The city of Madison is planning a bike path from Commercial Avenue south under WIS 30 to the Madison Corporate Center. The section between Blettner Bouldevard to Corporate Drive was constructed in 2005.

  • Hoepker Road - WisDOT will consider options for addressing safety concerns at this intersection.

  • Bartillon Drive - This project will connect Portage Road to US 51 via Kinsman Boulevard.
