US 51 central segment public involvement

Highway studies are a cooperative effort between the public, state and federal review agencies, and WisDOT. WisDOT welcomes public comments and provides many opportunities for community involvement.

A 14-minute project video is available to community groups. The video gives an overview of existing problems and concerns along the Stoughton Road corridor. Project staff are also available to give presentations about the needs assessment findings.

WisDOT also completed a survey to help citizens express their ideas about the study. Results of this survey are reported in the public involvement section (page 40) of the Stoughton Road Needs Assessment.

Public information meetings and workshops

Residents and motorists on the Stoughton Road corridor can share ideas and the results will be used as the basis for future design and construction along the corridor. Workshops allow attendees to give input about the study and work within groups to analyze the existing roadway. Public information meetings allow additional comment opportunities as well.

Scheduled:
Two public information meetings will be held May 16 and 17 to present the corridor study alternatives. Both meetings will be in an open-house format and will present the same information.

Both meetings will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Previously held:
A public information meeting was held March 29, 2006 at MATC - Truax Campus in Madison

A public information meeting was held March 30, 2006 at LaFollette High School in Madison.

An alternative solutions workshop was held May 3, 2004, at LaFollette High School in Madison.

Three public information meetings were held April 7, 9 and 10, 2003, to present the needs assessment results.

Advisory committees

A technical advisory committee and a policy advisory committee have been involved in the management and study process. WisDOT determined committee members with input from the city of Madison.

The technical advisory committee consists of representatives from:

City of Madison Engineering and Planning departments
Local governments of Monona, McFarland, Burke and Blooming Grove
Dane County Highway department
Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
Madison Metro
Federal Highway Administration
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

The policy advisory committee consists representatives of:

Madison City Council
Madison Mayor's Office
Monona City Council
Towns of Blooming Grove and Burke
Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
Dane County Highway Commission
Dane County Supervisors' Public Works and Transportation Committee
Local businesses and business associations
