US 14 reconstruction

US 14 is an important route in and around the Madison metropolitan area. Between WIS 92 and County MM, the existing US 14 does not have the capacity or design to carry the rising traffic volumes in the area.

To address this issue, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is undertaking two reconstruction projects on this section of US 14

  • In 2009, WisDOT expanded the existing US 14 to four lanes from County MM to WIS 138.
  • In 2011, WisDOT plans to reconstruct US 14/WIS 138 interchange and placement of roundabouts at the ramp terminals.

and one reconstruction project at the US 14/WIS 138 interchange.

  • In 2015, US 14 will be reconstructed as a new two-lane, limited-access highway between WIS 138 and WIS 92. This section of roadway will be relocated onto right of way originally purchased in 1976.

In 2010, the city of Fitchburg will be resurfacing the 4-lane segment on McCoy Road in the interchange area.

In 2011, the city of Fitchburg will be constructing a new full-diamond interchange located between the existing Lacy Road overpass and the McCoy Road interchange. In conjunction with the new interchange, the southernly ramps of McCoy Road interchange will be removed.

In 2012, to address existing pavement degradation of US 14, WisDOT plans to resurface US 14 between US 12/18 and County MM. In addition, County M will be resurfaced in the segment that is four lanes in the interchange area and beyond.
