Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

Will access to US 51 change?

There are approximately 20 driveways and five county and town roads along existing US 51 between Reardon Road and County V (Grinde Road). Each access location will be reviewed on a case by case basis with the input of the property owner. Where possible, driveways will be redirected to side roads or combined to serve more than one property owner.

Will noise walls be needed?

Noise walls are not anticipated to be part of the US 51 expansion project. Mitigation of noise impacts must be done in accordance with the Wisconsin Administrative Code, which means the noise barriers must reduce noise levels by a minimum of eight dBa and must be prudent and cost-effective. Although noise impacts will be reviewed and confirmed as part of the final design, noise barriers are not a likely mitigation measure for the homes potentially affected.

Will there be temporary road closures along US 51 during construction? How will an ambulance or patrol car get to our location in case of an emergency?

US 51 will remain open to through traffic while new additional lanes are constructed. All traffic will then be transferred to the new lanes while the existing lanes are reconstructed. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times throughout construction.
