Public meetings | News releases | Newsletters | Advisory committees

Transportation studies are a cooperative effort between the public, state and federal review agencies, and WisDOT. WisDOT welcomes public comments and provides many opportunities for community involvement.

Public information meetings and workshops

Public information meetings and workshops give the public the opportunity to provide input on the vision and future of the southern segment of US 51. Input received at these events is incorporated into future design and construction projects along the corridor. 

Scheduled

  • No meetings are scheduled at this time. 

Previously held

  • A public information meeting was held May 16, 2006 in Stoughton to present alternative concepts.
  • A public information meeting was held May 17, 2006 in McFarland to present alternative concepts.
  • WisDOT held an alternatives solutions workshop April 28, 2005, in Stoughton.
  • A public information meeting was held in January 2004 to present the preliminary results of the US 51 Needs Assessment.
  • WisDOT conducted three workshops in 2003 for the needs assessment portion of the study.

News releases

News releases are sent to local media and officials to keep the public informed about WisDOT projects.

Newsletters

Advisory committees

Two separate committees will help with the alternatives analysis and identification and implementation of short-term improvements. These committees have been meeting approximately once every two months since February 2005. Recommendations from both committees will help WisDOT make decisions on the corridor's future.

Policy advisory committee
The Policy Advisory Committee consists of elected officials from:

  • City of Stoughton
  • Village of McFarland
  • Town of Albion
  • Town of Dunkirk
  • Town of Dunn
  • Town of Pleasant Springs
  • Town of Rutland

Technical advisory committee
The Technical Advisory Committee consists of representatives from:

  • Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
  • Department of Natural Resources
  • Federal Highway Administration
  • Dane County Highway Department
  • Dane County Planning
  • City of Stoughton
  • Village of McFarland
  • Town of Dunn
