Verona Road/US 151 study - environmental documents

 CP/IAM | EIS | DEIS

Coordination Plan (CP) and Impact Analysis Methodology (IAM)

The updated SAFETEA-LU section 6002 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Coordination Plan (CP) and final Impact Analysis Methodology (IAM) are available for public viewing.

The following documents are in Adobe PDF PDF format.
(Note: Some files are large and may take longer to download depending on individual connection speeds. Users may need to zoom in to see details.)

The lead agencies for the project, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will use the CP document to interact with the public and other agencies and to inform the public and other agencies of how that interaction will be accomplished. The CP is meant to promote an efficient and streamlined process through coordination, scheduling, and early resolution of issues.

The purpose of the IAM is to communicate and document the lead agencies’ approach to analyzing impacts of the proposed transportation project. The IAM is intended to promote an efficient and streamlined process and early resolution of concerns or issues.

Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) identifies corridor needs, investigates alternative solutions and analyzes impacts of those alternatives.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) documents other alternatives that were investigated but determined not to be viable solutions to the stated corridor needs. One such alternative is known as the South Reliever. This is a bypass that would roughly parallel the Beltline south of Madison. It would connect the Verona Road bypass with US 14 at minimum, and possibly extend east all the way to I-39.

Although dismissed as a viable solution to existing and future Verona Road needs by WisDOT in 2002, interest in the alternative by many living near Verona Road led to creation of a separate report describing the alternative and reasons why it was dismissed. That study is also available for public review via the links below.

The following documents are in Adobe PDF PDF format.

Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)

WisDOT completed the DEIS in 2003. It outlined two viable Verona Road alternative solutions and is available for public review via the links below, at a number of Madison area libraries or by contacting:
