Business owner meetings

The WIS 181 (North 76th Street) corridor has a variety of businesses, including restaurants, banks, grocery stores, health services, manufacturing, and automobile-related service and sales. WisDOT conducted a door-to-door survey of businesses at the beginning of the project. The survey helped to determine the business owners and tenants' preferred contact people and recorded any concerns related to the corridor that were then communicated to the design team.

WisDOT is holding a series of meetings with business owners to keep them informed of design and construction proposals. The first set of meetings were held in February and October 2005, and in March 2006.

City of Milwaukee coordination

WisDOT is coordinating with city of Milwaukee officials on the WIS 181 project in a number of ways. This section of WIS 181 travels through two aldermanic districts and involves two active economic development organizations. WisDOT has had several meetings with city officials, leaders of the two aldermanic districts and economic development coordinators to discuss possible enhancements along the corridor.

Proposals currently being considered include neighborhood signage and landscaping. And, although WIS 181 is a state-owned roadway, the street lighting is owned and operated by the city of Milwaukee. The city's Department of Public Works will design plans for new street lighting that will be installed during construction.
