Michigan Street Bridge study public involvement

Public involvement is critical to the success of any WisDOT project. WisDOT held a number of meetings concerning the future of the Michigan Street Bridge with public officials, key opinion leaders and citizens to share information and obtain input.

Ongoing meetings had been occurring with local, county and national public officials and organizations since 1994. Public information meetings were held in Sturgeon Bay in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2001. Roundtable discussions were held with key opinion leaders in 2000 and 2001.

The project's Environmental Assessment was available for public review at the Door County Library and Maritime Museum and WisDOT offices in Green Bay and Madison beginning November 26, 2001. A public hearing was held on December 11, 2001, at the Stone Harbor Convention Center.

The public comment period for the Environmental Assessment and public hearing ran until January 4, 2002. Comments received earlier in the project life and during the comment period were considered by WisDOT in evaluating project alternatives.

Newsletters PDF were mailed in 2000 and 2001.
