US 10/WIS 441 expansion public involvement

The public has been involved throughout the development of the US 10/WIS 441 expansion study, including refinement of the preferred alternative, data gathering and Environmental Assessment preparation.

Public information meetings

Public information meetings (PIMs) are held to gather data, evaluate alternatives and prepare the Environmental Assessment.

Scheduled
No additional public meetings are scheduled at this time. Based on public support for the expansion expressed at previous PIMs, a public hearing is not expected to be necessary.

Previously held
Three PIMs were included as part of the expansion study:

  • October 29, 2002: Preliminary alternatives for upgrading the interchanges and adding capacity to US 10/WIS 441 were presented.
  • May 21, 2003: Public was updated on study progress and presented with preferred alternatives at most interchanges.
  • November 13, 2003: Preliminary functional plans for the freeway expansion and preferred interchange alternatives were presented.

Meetings with local officials and interest groups

WisDOT held several meetings with local officials and interest groups during development and refinement of the alternatives. Additional meetings are anticipated when the Transportation Projects Commission (TPC) decides to consider this project for future funding. Participants include local municipalities in the study area, the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, economic development interests, chambers of commerce and other local interest groups.

Agency coordination

State and federal review agencies have been involved in the study during data gathering, development and refinement of the alternatives. Involved state agencies include the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the State Historical Society. Involved federal agencies include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
