WIS 57 expansion project roadway design

WIS 57 is proposed to be an expressway facility. This means the side road connections and driveways will have direct connections to the proposed WIS 57. This concept is based on traffic data and highway needs in the project area.

Funding is also a consideration in the decision; the present proposal does not include funding for interchanges, which can significantly increase costs.

The speed limit for the expanded WIS 57 has not been decided yet, but roadways similar to this type of facility are regulated at 65 mph. The entire route from Green Bay to Sturgeon Bay will be reviewed prior to making the final decision.

The project will have minor impacts on the local roadway system. WisDOT is trying to limit the number of side roads connecting to the new highway due to safety concerns and location on the system.

Access to an individual's property will be provided either by a direct connection (a driveway) to the highway or by relocating the driveway to an abutting side road.
