WIS 57 expansion project history

In March 1989, WisDOT submitted the Corridor 2020 plan to Governor Tommy Thompson. This plan was designed to create a network of superior quality highways promoting economic development and meeting inner-city transportation needs into the 21st Century. WIS 57 was identified as a connector route and part of this plan.

WisDOT submitted the project to the Transportation Projects Commission (TPC) in 1990, beginning at WIS 57 and ending just north of Dyckesville. Monies were provided for a study in 1992.

During 1996, both the corridor was selected and the Dyckesville to WIS 42 section was submitted to the TPC. This section had been added at the request of local officials and businesses.

In 1997, the legislature approved funding. The final environmental document was approved in December 1998.
