US 51/WIS 29 project schedule - 2006

To minimize delays, local traffic should take alternate routes as work progresses. Expect delays during peak travel times on County NN, WIS 52/Stewart Avenue and 28th Avenue.

Project: Reconstruct WIS 29 east interchange.
Dates: February through November 2006
Traffic impacts: US 51 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. WIS 29 will be open to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound. Westbound WIS 29 ramp to southbound US 51 will be closed and detoured via County N interchange from March through October. Three-month closure of northbound US 51 ramp to WIS 29 eastbound planned. Detour via the County N interchange. County N to US 51 southbound will be closed and detoured via WIS 29 and Business 51 interchange from October through November. 

Project: Reconstruct County NN interchange. 
Dates: February through November 2006
Traffic impacts: US 51 traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. County NN will be open to one lane in each direction. Multiple ramp closures will occur March through July. Detour via County N interchange. 

Project: Replace current WIS 29 freeway with four lane urban section (future WIS 52) from 36th Avenue to US 51. 
Dates: April through November 2006
Traffic impacts: WIS 29 will be open to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound. 

Project: Construct southbound lanes between WIS 29 and Oriole Lane. 
Dates: August 2006 through November 2008
Traffic impacts: US 51 traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. Stewart Avenue under US 51 will be closed eight weeks in September/October 2006 for bridge construction. 

Project: Reconstruct US 51 and construct Bridge Street on new alignment. 
Dates: August 2006 through November 2007
Traffic impacts: US 51 traffic may be reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. Traffic may be stopped for blasting operations. Bridge Street will be closed October 2006 through September 2007 between Westwood Drive and 17th Avenue, no ramp access to US 51.
