WIS 23 reconstruction project

WIS 23 is an important local, commercial and tourist route linking the Fox River Valley to the interstate system and southwestern Wisconsin.

Reconstruction of five miles of WIS 23 from Green Lake County A to Arcade Glen Road in the city of Ripon is scheduled to occur from spring to fall 2011.

Project improvements include:

  • New driving surface.
  • Intersection safety upgrades, including left and right turn lanes, deceleration lanes and overall improvement in layout and geometric design.
  • Proposed passing lanes west of Ripon to help relieve congestion.
  • New service roads and reduced access points to aid the safe and efficient flow of WIS 23 traffic.
  • Relocation of the North Lawson Drive roadway and intersection with WIS 23 in the city of Green Lake. Design staff is working closely with the local officials of Green Lake to determine the final footprint of the relocated roadway.
  • Rehabilitating and widening the Puchyan River and Silver Creek bridges.

Upon completion, WIS 23 will be a safe and efficient corridor balancing the needs of travelers and local citizens for at least the next 20 years. The improved highway will increase the quality of life in the area and provide for continued economic prosperity in the region.

This project represents an estimated $9.1 million investment in Wisconsin's transportation infrastructure.
