I-43 event-only partial interchange study

Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is proceeding with a study to determine the feasibility of an event-only interchange to support traffic operations on I-43 during major golf events at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin. Cost will be shared evenly between WisDOT and Kohler Company.

The Professional Golf Association (PGA) has been very impressed with how golf events have been managed in the past.

I-43 is the major highway between Green Bay and Milwaukee and also provides the most direct route to Whistling Straits. An effective traffic management plan will not only direct event patrons to the course, but will provide safe travel on I-43 for those that are also using it during events.

Another successful event will bring millions of dollars into the state. Providing an event-only interchange could contribute favorably to this course being selected for more major events in the future.

The actual location is yet to be determined but most likely will be in the town of Mosel area in Sheboygan County.

Planning began in 2007 and the feasibility of an event only interchange will be evaluated. The interchange needs to be approved by the Federal Highway Administration. If approved, construction is estimated to begin and end in 2009.

The PGA Championship is currently scheduled for 2010 and 2015 and the Ryder Cup tournament is scheduled for 2020.
