Remote control of movable bridges in the Northeast Region

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Regional Office in Green Bay is planning to install cameras and monitors on various lift bridges in the region.

WisDOT's goals are to: 

  • Maintain the same level of service.
  • Increase safety.
  • Generate a cost savings.

Brown County

City of Green Bay

WisDOT has contracted Clark Dietz, Inc. to conduct a feasibility study for remote operation of bridges in Green Bay. Clark Dietz, Inc. is currently working on developing the study, which should be completed in the fall of 2008.

Door County

City of Sturgeon Bay

The feasibility study has been completed.

Winnebago County

City of Oshkosh

The work to install cameras and monitors on the Main Street, Jackson/Oregon and Congress Street lift bridges in Oshkosh has been completed. The cameras and monitors were functional for the 2006 boating season and are being used to improve the bridge tender's view of pedestrian, vehicle, and boat traffic while operating the bridges.

City of Menasha

Work is completed on the contract to convert the Tayco Street bridge operation to be remotely operated from the Racine Street bridge.

Tayco Street Bridge is scheduled to be fully remotely operated from the Racine Street Bridge with the start of the 2008 navigational season.
