WIS 13 Medford Reconstruction project

Project overview

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is planning to reconstruct 2.39 miles of WIS 13 in Taylor County. The project consists of three segments, two segments will be reconstructed and one segment will involve utility replacement with new signing and marking:

  • The southern segment that begins 1,600 feet north of County O to 400 feet south of Perkins Street
  • The northern segment from WIS 64 to 1,800 feet north of Ann’s Way.
  • In the third/ middle segment between Perkins Street and WIS 64, city utilities will be installed and repaired. The city is also planning on installing a water main south of the southern segment with a city contract before or during this project.

In addition, new sidewalk will be installed on both sides of WIS 13 from WIS 64 to Ann’s Way. Streetlights will be replaced with new street lighting located on both sides of WIS 13 throughout the northern project segment.

Roundabouts will replace traffic signals at Allman Street and Ann’s Way.

Additional utility improvements will include excavations to install replacement water and sanitary sewer systems and replacement lateral lines within the project limits and new sanitary sewer and water lines north of Ann’s Way. These facilities are owned by the city of Medford; therefore a consultant under contract with the city is designing their replacement. In order to provide for close coordination between the roadway reconstruction work and the city utilities work, the replacement of these facilities is planned to be included in the highway construction contract. Storm sewer improvements will include replacement storm sewer, and new storm sewer systems and replacement storm sewer trunk lines within the project limits.

Project cost is estimated at $9 - 10 million. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2011 and be completed in the fall of 2011.

Detour

While the project is being constructed a detour will be in place for WIS 13 using County O to County Q to County M. Another detour will be in place for a shorter duration for WIS 64 using County C to County O to County Q.
