WIS 13 Medford Reconstruction project - Need/purpose

The existing concrete pavement structure of WIS 13 is deteriorating and has poor drainage. The roadway is in need of extensive repair and is reaching the end of its functional life. An asphaltic overlay was done in 2004 to maintain usability until the pavement structure could be replaced.

The overall purpose of this project is to meet three general categories of needs along the project corridor.

  • The first and primary need is to replace the deteriorating pavement and build a new wider roadway that will provide for the long-term safety and mobility of the traveling public consistent with projected traffic volumes and current design standards. Two signalized intersections will be replaced with new safer roundabouts.
  • The second need is to replace deteriorating city water and sewer systems that no longer efficiently meet the functional needs of the community, and to improve the quality of storm water runoff.
  • The third need is to enhance the functional and aesthetic qualities of WIS 13 including safe pedestrian crossings with new sidewalk.
