US 14 Reconstruction - Environmental information
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) - 1976
In the 1960’s an EIS was developed to discuss the US 14 corridor, future expansion needs for the immediate community, alternatives available, and the environmental impacts associated to each alternative discussed. Based on development of the completed EIS, the US 14 alignment was selected.
The US 14 corridors discussed in the EIS extended to the Dane and Rock County limits.
As required in the public involvement procedures, meetings have been held with local officials and the public to ensure the results of the original EIS are still applicable to today’s residents and environment as WisDOT moves ahead with the US 14 corridor projects.
Environmental Assessment (EA) - 2008
An EA was produced for the US 14 corridor (Segments A, B, C (which are completed) and E). The EA evaluated the purpose and need of the overall project and the environmental impacts of a number of alternative developed during the study.

Environmental Assessment (EA) - 2015
To provide continuity, as well as address new possible design alternatives for the proposed intersection locations along the corridor, an environmental assessment document will be prepared for the US 14 reconstruction project.

A separate ER will be generated for Segment F and Segment I.
- Park and ride lot project (Segment F)
- The park and ride project is the construction of a new park and ride lot and a future salt shed in the southeast quadrant of the US 14 and WIS 138 interchange.
- Existing US 14 (Segment I)
- Transfer of existing US 14 from WIS 138 to West Rutland Rd.
WisDOT projects and construction sometimes change the natural environment around a project area. To minimize the effects of road construction and development WisDOT works to reduce change to the natural environment and leads several efforts to restore project areas.
