US 10 expansion - public involvement

Meetings | News Releases | Newsletters/Handouts

Highway projects are developed cooperatively by the public, state and federal review agencies, and WisDOT. Preparing an expansion project like US 10 takes several years, and extensive effort is always made to keep the public involved and informed.

Environmental studies and preliminary design for US 10 began in 1990. The final environmental impact statement for Trestik Road to I-39 was completed in 2004. The Record of Decision was approved in May 2005, which allowed WisDOT to begin real estate acquisition and final design. An environmental assessment for the segment between Wood County B and WIS 34 south was completed in 2005 with a Finding of No Significant Impact completed in January 2007.

Design of each of the construction projects begins approximately three years prior to construction. Final design includes detailed engineering and data gathering needed for the development of construction plans.

Contact with property owners regarding right of way acquisition begins approximately one to two years prior to construction of each project segment.

Public information meetings (PIM) and hearings

Public information meetings allow the public to gather in an open-house setting to learn more about a project, view exhibits, and ask questions and talk with project staff. The public is also invited to contact project staff at any time with any questions or concerns about the project.
